Named after the famous Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa, the institute is typically housed within Brazilian embassies or consulates and aims to foster cultural exchange and understanding between Brazil and the host country.
In Pretoria, the IGR is an extension of the Brazilian Embassy in South Africa. It offers various cultural activities, including Portuguese language courses, film screenings, art exhibitions, lectures, and workshops on Brazilian culture, literature, music, and dance.
It also collaborate with local cultural institutions to organize joint events or sponsor initiatives that can highlight the richness and diversity of Brazilian culture.
Through its programs and events, the IGR Pretoria aims not only to build and strengthen cultural ties with South Africa, but also enhance mutual understanding and fostering a deeper appreciation of Brazil’s cultural heritage in the entire African continent.
