Portuguese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and has official status in nine countries.
Though there is only one Portuguese language, accents and characteristics differ from country to country (and often inside each country as well!). The Portuguese taught at the IGR Pretoria is the variant spoken and easily understood by over 200 million Brazilians.
We offer a range of programmes: a Regular Programme (six levels), a Conversational Portuguese Programme (two levels), an Intensive Programme, a Kids Programme (six levels) and a Celpe-Bras Exam Preparatory Course.
This is a three-year Portuguese language programme and is currently divided into six one-semester courses (60 hours each). The levels are: Basic 1 and 2, Intermediate 1 and 2, Advanced 1 and 2.
This programme is meant for learners who have completed the Regular Programme or have otherwise reached an advanced level of Portuguese and would like to practice in a variety of contexts. It consists of two one-semester courses (60 hours each), namely Conversation 1 and 2.
This is a 40-hour introductory course usually offered in July. After completion, the learner should be able to register for the Basic 2 level of the Regular Programme.
Designed for children from 4 to 12 years old, this programme is divided into six one-semester levels (20 hours each). In this programme, learners are exposed to Portuguese through children-friendly vocabulary, songs, games and more.
This 20-hour course is meant for learners who are interested in taking the Brazilian proficiency test Celpe-Bras. Learners are prepared to deal with the written and oral sessions of the exam.
