If you want to study in Brazil, there are two programmes for you: the PEC-G, for Undergraduate Students; and the PEC-PG, for Graduate Students. Brazil offers scholarships for both programmes for students with academic excellence and proficiency in Portuguese
Currently, 74 countries participate in the Undergraduate Student Programme (PEC-G), of which 29 are African countries (including South Africa). Courses in all areas of knowledge are offered.
Since the 2000s, more than 11,300 students have joined the programme. Africa is the continent of origin for most students, with 61% of those selected. Most of these come from Portuguese speaking countries, such as Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Mozambique.
The PEC-G programme grants tuition-free undergraduate courses in Brazilian universities to successful applicants.
The Celpe-Bras certificate is a prerequisite for applying for the programme.
The Student Programme for Graduate Studies (PEC-PG) offers scholarships to nationals of the same 68 countries as the PEC-G (including South Africa).
The following benefits are offered to the recipients: enrollment in a Master’s or PhD course; monthly allowance (same value as that offered to Brazilian students); and an air ticket to the foreign student’s country of origin upon successful completion of the programme.
The Celpe-Bras certificate is a prerequisite for applying for the programme.
